Biography

Born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, "Buck" Weaver began playing major league baseball on April 11, 1912, as a shortstop on the White Sox.  In 1917 when Charles Risberg joined the team, Weaver switched to playing third base.  It was said that he was the only third baseman that Ty Cobb wouldn't bunt against.

In the 1919 World Series, Weaver had a .324 average, 11 hits, and no errors.  He had nothing to do with the plan to let the Reds win, and he wasn't paid any money.  However, he was banned from playing organized baseball for knowing about the plan and not telling officials.

After his last game on September 27, 1920, Weaver kept fighting.  He sued Charles Comiskey for his 1921 salary, and he tried to get reinstated six times before dying of a heart attack on January 31, 1956.
